Background

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as motor neurone disease (MND), Charcot disease, and, in the United States, Lou Gehrig's disease, has been increasing in the current aging society and is becoming a serious social problem. It is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atrophy, and difficulty in speaking (dysarthria), swallowing, and breathing. ALS is the most common of the five motor neuron diseases. Cosmo Bio provides a wide variety of antibodies and reagents for ALS-related research.

Immunohistochemistry of TDP-43 lesions. PAb “pS409/410-1” recognize neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions (NCIs) in dentate gyrus of FLTD-U. Note: PAb pS409/410-1 sometimes stained ghost tangles and dot-like structures (granulovacuolar degeneration) in the hippocampal and other regions of brains with AD or other related diseases. For this reason, we recommend pS409/410-2 or mAb pS409/410 for immunohisochemistry of human tissues

 

Immunohistochemistry of TDP-43 lesions. NCIs in dentate gyrus of FTLD-U are specifically stained. Bars 100 lm. MAb pS409/410 stains ubiquitin-positive inclusions in FTLD-U and ALS without nuclear staining. This does not stain ghost tangles and granulovacuolar degeneration in AD or other related diseases by immunohistochemistry.
