様々な生体液（血清など）、装置、エアフィルター、組織培養培地などに含まれる細菌内毒素を、in vitro で定量することができます。

背景

リポ多糖（LPS）のようなエンドトキシンは、グラム陰性菌の副産物で、一般的にパイロジェン（発熱物質）として知られています。本商品は、アメリカカブトガニ（Limulus polyphemus）が細菌に感染すると血管内凝固を引き起こすことを利用した試験です。カブトガニの変形細胞（アメーバ様細胞）または血球に凝固の原因となる物質が含まれており、パイロジェン（細菌内毒素）の刺激により濁度の増大やゲル形成反応が起こります。このような機序により、エンドトキシンは、酵素反応によりカブトガニ血球抽出成分（LAL）のゲル化を引き起こします。LAL エンドポイントアッセイは、簡単でコストを抑えることができ、様々な生物製剤（血清など）、装置、エアフィルター、組織培養培地などに、有害なレベルのエンドトキシンが含まれているかどうかを試験することができます。
