ジメチルアリル二リン酸 (DMAPP) は、イソプレノイド生合成経路の構成要素です。イソプレノイド化合物は、細胞の必須成分であり、多様性に富む天然産物の化合物群です。イソプレノイドは、単純な前駆体イソペンテニル二リン酸 (IPP) とジメチルアリル二リン酸 (DMAPP) から生合成されます。また、真核生物、真菌、および一部のグラム陽性菌はメバロン酸 (MVA) 経路を通じて IPP を生成しますが、グラム陰性菌および一部のグラム陽性菌は非メバロン酸経路または 2-C-メチル-D-エリスリトール-4-リン酸(MEP) 経路を利用します。
