背景

PGF_2α は、様々な細胞で PGH₂ から形成され、PGH₂ 自身は、プロスタグランジン合成酵素によってアラキドン酸から合成されます。PGF_2α は、様々な組織で拮抗作用を持つことから、PGE₂ のアンタゴニストであるとみなされることがあります。

強力な気管支収縮剤で、喘息の発作に関係しています。PGF_2α は、黄体の調節、子宮収縮、精子運動性などの性機能にも関係していることが知られています。
