要約 プロテインキナーゼHog1(高浸透圧グリセロール1:high osmolarity glycerol 1)は、20年前に発見され、出芽酵母(Saccharomyces cerevisiae)の浸透圧調整における中心的なシグナル伝達メディエーターであることが明らかになった。Hog1ホモログは、評価されたすべての真核生物に存在し、このキナーゼは、外部のストレスと刺激に対する細胞応答に中心的な役割を果たす。今回われわれは、細胞が細胞外浸透圧を感知する機構、Hog1が細胞適応を制御する方法、ならびにHog1経路が細胞の成長および形態に与える影響に焦点を当てる。これらの問題に取り組んだ研究から、Hog1シグナル伝達経路が様々な細胞プロセスに与える影響が解明される。
